Soft Twisted Milk Buns Recipe

Soft Twisted Milk Buns

Ingredients

 • 4 cups all-purpose flour (500 g)

 • ¾ cup warm milk (180 ml)

 • ¼ cup sugar (50 g)

 • 2¼ teaspoons instant yeast (7 g)

 • 1 large egg

 • ¼ cup melted butter (60 g)

 • ½ teaspoon salt (3 g)

 • ¼ cup warm water (60 ml), if needed

For Egg Wash

 • 1 egg

 • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

Add the warm milk, sugar and yeast to a bowl. Stir and allow to sit for about 5 minutes.

Add the egg and melted butter, then mix well.

Add the flour and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms. Add a little warm water if the dough feels too dry.

Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover and allow it to rise until doubled in size.

Punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions.

Roll each portion into an oval shape. Make several long cuts across the dough, leaving one edge uncut.

Gently roll the cut dough into a long strip, then curl and twist it into a beautiful knot or flower shape.

Arrange the shaped buns on a lined baking tray. Cover and allow them to rise again until puffy.

Mix the egg and milk together and brush gently over the buns.

Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 20–25 minutes, or until beautifully golden brown.

Brush the hot buns with a little melted butter for a soft, shiny finish.

✨ Enjoy your soft, fluffy and buttery twisted milk buns!
