Ring Doughnuts
Ingredients
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp instant dry yeast
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg (optional, for flavor)
- ½ cup (120ml) warm milk
- 2 tbsp (30g) melted butter or margarine
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil for deep frying
- Granulated sugar or glaze for coating
Instructions
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, salt, and nutmeg.
Add the warm milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and roll it out to about ½-inch (1.3 cm) thickness.
Cut out doughnut rings using a doughnut cutter or two round cutters (e.g., a cup and a bottle cap).
Place the cut doughnuts on a floured tray, cover, and let them rise again for 30–40 minutes until puffy.
Heat oil in a deep pot to 170–180°C (340–360°F). Fry the doughnuts in batches for about 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
Remove and drain on paper towels.
While still warm, coat in granulated sugar or dip in a glaze of your choice.
