Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

🛒 Ingredients

  • 🧁 Red Velvet Cake

  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 15 g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 200 g sugar
  • 120 ml vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 240 ml buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp white vinegar

  • 300 g cream cheese (softened)
  • 150 g unsalted butter (softened)
  • 200–250 g powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the Cake

Preheat oven to 175°C. Grease and line 2 cake pans.

In a bowl, sift flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

In another bowl, whisk sugar, oil, and eggs until smooth.

Add buttermilk, food coloring, vanilla, and vinegar. Mix well.

Gradually combine dry ingredients into wet mixture.

Divide batter into pans and bake 25–30 minutes.

Cool completely before frosting.

2. Make the Frosting

Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.

Add powdered sugar gradually.

Mix in vanilla until fluffy.

3. Assemble

Level cake layers if needed.

Spread frosting between layers.

Cover entire cake with frosting.

Optional: crumble leftover cake and press on sides for that classic red velvet look.

Don’t overmix → keeps cake soft and tender

Use gel food coloring for deeper red color

Chill cake 30 min before slicing for clean layers
