Layered Chocolate & Caramel Cake

This impressive cake is made of several layers of cocoa sponge cake, filled with a smooth, creamy frosting and topped with a luscious caramel glaze.

Ingredients

  • For the cake:

  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 300 g sugar
  • 60 g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 200 ml milk
  • 100 ml vegetable oil

  • For the filling and glaze:

  • 300 g cream cheese (such as Saint-Moret or similar)
  • 100 g powdered sugar
  • 150 g salted butter caramel
  • 80 g crushed biscuits or chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and baking powder.

Add the eggs, milk, and oil. Whisk until the batter is smooth and well combined.

Pour the batter into a deep cake pan and bake for 45 minutes. Let it cool completely.

Beat the cream cheese with the powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of caramel to make the filling.

Slice the cooled cake horizontally into three layers.

Spread a generous amount of cream between each layer and reassemble the cake.

Pour the remaining caramel over the top, letting it gently drip down the sides.

Decorate the edges with crushed biscuits or chocolate chips for added crunch.
