Boston Cream Hawaiian Roll Bites

Ingredients (Makes 12):

  • 1 package Original King's Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
  • 1 box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 cup cold milk
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, divided
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Cream Filling:

In a medium bowl, whisk the instant vanilla pudding mix with the cold milk until smooth and no lumps remain. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes to thicken. While it sets, use a hand mixer to whip ½ cup of the heavy whipping cream with the powdered sugar until it forms stiff peaks. Gently fold the whipped cream into the thickened pudding until fully combined, creating a light and creamy custard. Transfer this filling to a piping bag fitted with a round tip (or a zip-top bag with a corner snipped off) and set aside.

2. Prepare the Rolls:

Carefully separate the Hawaiian rolls. Using your finger or the blunt end of a wooden spoon, gently poke a hole into the side of each roll. Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

3. Fill the Rolls:

Insert the tip of the piping bag into the hole of each roll. Gently squeeze to fill each roll generously with the cream filling, being careful not to overfill and split the roll. You should feel the roll become slightly heavier.

4. Make the Chocolate Ganache:

Pour the remaining ½ cup of heavy whipping cream into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 45-60 seconds, or until hot but not boiling. Place the chocolate chips in a separate bowl. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate chips and let it sit for one minute. Then, stir slowly until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy.

5. Glaze and Serve:

Holding a filled roll by its base, carefully dip the top into the warm chocolate ganache, twisting slightly for an even coat. Allow any excess to drip off, then return it to the baking sheet. Repeat with all rolls. For best texture, let the chocolate set for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy immediately!
