- Yield: About 10–12 donuts
- Oil Temperature: 175°C / 350°F
Ingredients
For the Donuts
- 375 g (3 cups) all-purpose flour
- 7 g (2¼ tsp) instant yeast
- 50 g (¼ cup) granulated sugar
- 180 ml (¾ cup) warm milk
- 1 large egg
- 60 g (¼ cup) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp salt
- Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Chocolate Glaze
- 150 g chocolate, chopped
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2–3 tbsp milk or heavy cream
- 1 tbsp powdered sugar, optional
Instructions
1. Make the dough: Combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes.
2. Add the egg, vanilla, softened butter, flour, and salt. Knead for 8–10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
3. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1–1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
4. Roll the dough to about 1 cm thick. Cut into donut shapes using a round donut cutter.
5. Place the donuts on parchment paper, cover, and let rise again for 30–45 minutes.
6. Fry: Heat the oil to about 175°C / 350°F. Fry the donuts for 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
7. Transfer to a wire rack and let excess oil drain.
8. Make the glaze: Melt the chocolate, butter, and milk or cream together until smooth. Stir in the powdered sugar if desired.
9. Dip the top of each donut into the chocolate glaze.
10. Decorate with white chocolate drizzle, chocolate chips, or sprinkles, if desired.
11. Let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving.
Tip
For soft, fluffy donuts, avoid adding too much flour. The dough should remain soft and slightly tacky rather than stiff.
