Creme chantilly

Crème Chantilly is a sweetened whipped cream lightly flavored with vanilla, ideal for piping onto cakes, desserts, or warm beverages.

Prep time: 5 minutes

Yield: Approx. 2 cups

Creme chantilly

Ingredients

 * 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream or heavy whipping cream, well-chilled (minimum 35% fat content)

 * 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (confectioners' sugar)

 * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or pure vanilla bean paste

Instructions

 * Chill equipment: Place your mixing bowl and whisk (or beaters) in the refrigerator or freezer for 10–15 minutes before starting. Keeping everything cold ensures the cream whips faster and holds structure.

 * Combine ingredients: Pour the cold heavy cream into the chilled bowl. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract.

 * Whip the cream: Using an electric hand mixer, stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, or a manual balloon whisk, beat on medium-low speed until the mixture begins to thicken.

 * Whip to desired peaks: Increase the speed to medium-high and continue whipping until stiff peaks form (the cream will hold its shape when the beaters or whisk are lifted). Be careful not to over-whip, or it will turn grainy and separate into butter.

 * Serve or store: Use immediately for piping onto cakes or desserts, or transfer to an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.

Tips for Success

 * Fat Content: Ensure the heavy cream has at least 35% fat content, as lower-fat creams will not whip up properly or hold shape.

 * Powdered Sugar: Confectioners' sugar contains a small amount of cornstarch, which helps stabilize the whipped cream compared to regular granulated sugar.
