Mallorca Bread

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • 1/4 cup melted butter, for brushing

Directions:

In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and warm water. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the mixture and let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and granulated sugar.

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the frothy yeast mixture.

Add the melted unsalted butter, eggs, salt, and vanilla extract to the bowl.

Mix all the ingredients until a soft dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Place the dough back in the mixing bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Punch down the dough to release any air bubbles and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball.

Place the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between them.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the Mallorca bread rolls turn golden brown.

Remove from the oven and brush each roll with melted butter. Dust with powdered sugar while they're still warm.

Serve the Mallorca bread rolls warm and enjoy!
