Black Velvet Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (preferably dark or black cocoa)
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

  • For the Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4-5 tbsp milk or heavy cream

Instructions:

Prepare Cake Batter: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Mix Wet Ingredients: Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth, then carefully stir in boiling water (the batter will be thin).

Bake: Divide batter between the prepared
