Marble Bread
Soft, fluffy bread with beautiful swirls of vanilla and chocolate throughout.
Ingredients
Vanilla dough
* 3 cups all-purpose flour
* 2¼ teaspoons instant yeast
* ¼ cup sugar
* ½ teaspoon salt
* 1 cup warm milk
* 1 large egg
* 3 tablespoons butter, softened
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Chocolate dough
* 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
* 1 tablespoon warm milk
For brushing
* 1 tablespoon melted butter
Method
1. Make the dough: Mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add warm milk, egg, vanilla, and softened butter. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
2. First rise: Cover and allow the dough to rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
3. Create the chocolate dough: Divide the dough into two portions. Knead the cocoa powder and warm milk into one portion until evenly coloured.
4. Shape the marble: Divide both doughs into several small pieces. Roll the pieces into ropes and gently twist the chocolate and vanilla ropes together.
5. Place the twisted dough into a greased loaf pan, arranging it evenly.
6. Cover and allow to rise again for 30–45 minutes.
7. Brush the top with melted butter.
8. Bake: Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30–35 minutes, until golden and cooked through.
9. Allow to cool before slicing to reveal the marble pattern.
