Mounds Cake

Yields: 12–16 servings (9×13-inch cake)
🧾 Ingredients
Chocolate Cake:
1 box chocolate cake mix
Ingredients listed on the box (eggs, oil, water)
(or use your favorite homemade chocolate cake recipe)
Coconut Filling:
1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
2 cups sweetened shredded coconut
½ tsp vanilla extract
Optional: ½ tsp almond extract (for authentic Mounds flavor)
Chocolate Topping:
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
½ cup heavy cream
1 tbsp butter (optional, for shine)
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Bake the Cake
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Prepare and bake chocolate cake according to package or recipe directions.
Let cake cool completely.
2. Make Coconut Layer
In a bowl, mix condensed milk, shredded coconut, vanilla, and almond extract (if using).
Spread evenly over cooled cake, pressing gently.
3. Prepare Chocolate Topping
Heat heavy cream until just steaming (do not boil).
Pour over chocolate chips and butter.
Let sit 1 minute, then stir until smooth.
Spread ganache evenly over coconut layer.
4. Chill & Serve
Refrigerate for 1 hour until set.
Slice and serve chilled or slightly softened at room temperature
