Moist Chocolate Cake recipe

Ingredients:

  • For the Cake:

  • All-purpose flour – 2 cups
  • Granulated sugar – 2 cups
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder – ¾ cup
  • Baking powder – 2 tsp
  • Baking soda – 1½ tsp
  • Salt – ½ tsp
  • Eggs – 2 large
  • Whole milk – 1 cup
  • Vegetable oil – ½ cup
  • Warm water or brewed coffee – 1 cup (coffee enhances the chocolate flavor)
  • Vanilla extract – 2 tsp

  • For the Chocolate Frosting:

  • Unsalted butter – 1 cup softened
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder – ¾ cup
  • Powdered sugar – 3½ cups
  • Heavy cream or milk – ¼ cup more if needed
  • Vanilla extract – 1½ tsp
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch (20cm) round cake pans or line with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until smooth. Gradually add warm water or coffee and mix until fully incorporated. The batter will be thin – that’s perfect for a moist cake.

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

For the frosting, beat the butter until creamy. Sift in the cocoa powder and mix. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating well between additions. Add cream, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. Beat until fluffy and spreadable. Add more cream or sugar as needed to reach your desired consistency.

Frost the completely cooled cakes. Layer, cover, and decorate as you wish.
