Red Velvet Cake Roll Recipe

Ingredients

For the cake:

• 3 large eggs

• 3/4 cup granulated sugar

• 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

• 1 teaspoon baking powder

• 1/4 teaspoon salt

• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

• 1 tablespoon cocoa powder

• 3/4 cup flour

• 1 tablespoon red food coloring

• Powdered sugar for rolling

Cream Cheese Filling:

• 115 g (4 oz) cream cheese (at room temperature)

• 1/4 cup unsalted butter (at room temperature)

• 2 cups powdered sugar

• 1 teaspoon vanilla

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).

Line a rectangular baking sheet (approximately 10×15 inches) with parchment paper.

2. Beat the eggs and sugar until light in color and fluffy, about 4–5 minutes.

 3. Add the oil, vanilla, and red food coloring and mix briefly.

4. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt.

Slowly fold this mixture into the egg mixture without deflating it.

5. Spread the batter evenly in the pan.

Bake for 10–12 minutes (overbaking will dry out the cake!).

6. Cover a clean kitchen towel generously with powdered sugar.

Turn the hot cake out of the oven upside down and carefully remove the parchment paper.

7. While the cake is still warm, roll it up with the towel and let it cool.

🍰 Filling Preparation

    8. Beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth.

Add the powdered sugar and vanilla and mix until creamy.

🎀 Assembly

    9. Carefully unroll the cooled cake.

Spread the cream evenly.

    10. Roll it up tightly again.

Wrap it in plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.

✨ Serving

    • You can sprinkle powdered sugar on top

    • You can slice it and serve it 🍰
