One-Bowl Chocolate Cake (No Mixer)

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour – 1 ¾ cups (220 g)
  • Granulated sugar – 1 ½ cups (300 g)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder – ¾ cup (75 g)
  • Baking powder – 1 ½ tsp (6 g)
  • Baking soda – 1 ½ tsp (6 g)
  • Salt – ½ tsp (3 g)
  • Large eggs – 2
  • Whole milk – 1 cup (240 ml)
  • Vegetable oil – ½ cup (120 ml)
  • Vanilla extract – 2 tsp (10 ml)
  • Boiling water – 1 cup (240 ml)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pan or line it with parchment paper. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until everything is evenly combined. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract directly into the bowl, and stir with a spatula or wooden spoon until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. Gradually pour in the boiling water, stirring carefully—it will make the batter thin, but that’s perfect for a moist cake.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve as is, dust with cocoa, or top with your favorite frosting.
