Chocolate Cake with Cinnamon Stick Accent
(Serves 8-10 | Two 8-inch layers)
Ingredients :
- Chocolate Cake
- 200g all-purpose flour
- 70g unsweetened cocoa powder
- 300g caster sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 eggs
- 240ml buttermilk
- 120ml vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 240ml hot water
Instructions :
Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease and line two 8-inch tins.
Sift all the dry ingredients. Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla; beat until smooth. Add hot water; mix until batter is thin. Divide batter evenly between the prepared tins. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the cake comes out clean. Cool cake completely.
Cinnamon Chocolate Buttercream
- 250g unsalted butter, softened
- 500g icing sugar
- 50g cocoa powder
- 4 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Beat butter until pale. Gradually add icing sugar, cocoa, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla; beat until fluffy.
Assembly
Sandwich the cake layers with buttercream. Smooth the buttercream over the top and sides. Chill the cake for 30 minutes.
Decorate the top with 6-8 whole cinnamon sticks placed in a star formation or a cluster.
