Just baked the most amazing Old-Fashioned Butter Cake! 🍰❤️ It’s soft, buttery, and drizzled with a sweet glaze. Heaven on a plate!
Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- For the Glaze:
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch cake pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan.
While the cake is cooling, make the glaze. In a small saucepan, combine the butter, sugar, and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
Poke holes all over the warm cake with a fork and pour the glaze evenly over the top. Let the cake cool completely before serving.
