Chocolate Cake with Cocoa Powder
Classic Chocolate Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
For the cake:
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
For the frosting:
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until well combined.
4. Stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.
5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
7. Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
For the frosting:
1. In a large mixing bowl, beat softened butter and cocoa powder until well combined.
2. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with milk and vanilla extract, beating until smooth and creamy.
3. Add a pinch of salt and mix until incorporated.
Assemble the cake:
1. Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting evenly over the top.
2. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting.
3. Decorate as desired with chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or fresh berries.
