Caramel Frosting

Caramel Frosting

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup whole milk or heavy cream
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Melt the Butter:

In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.

2. Make the Caramel:

Once the butter is melted, stir in the packed brown sugar and milk (or heavy cream).

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring constantly. Allow it to boil for about 2-3 minutes, until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture thickens slightly.

3. Cool the Caramel:

Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the caramel mixture cool for a few minutes. It should still be warm but not hot.

4. Add the Powdered Sugar:

Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar to the warm caramel mixture, stirring continuously until smooth and well combined.

5. Add Vanilla Extract:

Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated. This will enhance the flavor of the caramel frosting.

6. Frosting Consistency:

If the frosting is too thick, you can add a little more milk or cream, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency. If it's too thin, add more powdered sugar, a tablespoon at a time, until it thickens.

7. Frost Your Cake:

Once the caramel frosting is at the desired consistency, use it to frost your cake or cupcakes. Spread it evenly over the cooled cake layers or pipe it onto cupcakes using a piping bag.

8. Serve:

Serve your caramel-frosted cake or cupcakes immediately, or store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

This caramel frosting adds a rich and indulgent flavor to any cake or cupcake. It's perfect for topping off your favorite desserts and is sure to be a hit with caramel lovers!
