Ginger Biscuits Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda (baking soda)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup margarine or butter (room temperature)
- 4 tablespoons golden syrup
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
2. Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, salt, and baking soda. Add sugar and stir well.
3. Rub in butter: Add margarine/butter and rub in with fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
4. Form dough: Stir in the golden syrup. Mix gently until a dough forms (do not overmix).
5. Shape biscuits: Using an ice cream scoop or deep spoon, portion the dough. Roll into balls and place on the baking tray, leaving space for spreading.
6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until golden brown.
7. Cool & serve: Let biscuits cool slightly on the tray before transferring to a wire rack. Serve warm or store in an airtight container.
✨ Tips
For extra crunch, sprinkle a little sugar on top before baking.
If you prefer chewy ginger biscuits, bake for slightly less time.
You can add a pinch of nutmeg or cloves for a richer spice flavor.
